Our Mission & Vision
Inspired by wonder, we empower creative leaders and advocate for the arts in Jackson Hole.
We succeed when:
• Our community connects with the wonder of Jackson Hole through its artists, creative organizations and art experiences;
• There are vibrant creative spaces for all ages;
• We mobilize sufficient resources to enable the maximum impact of our community’s creative leadership; and
• Our community’s creative leaders are united by mutual goals and strategies.
Trust and collaboration
Transformative creative leadership
The creative process
Center of Wonder was founded by Gary and Veronica Silberberg in 2007 with the intention of reconnecting us through art and unique experiences.
During the first five years, we partnered with local organizations primarily in the arts, education and science arenas to provide programming that allowed audiences to explore, discover, imagine and collaborate.
In 2012, the Collaborating for a Creative Community (C3) grants program was launched as a natural outcome of our programming. Seed funding from the founders, combined with matching gifts from other individuals and foundation donors, enabled C3 to expand its reach into our community. C3 had specific guidelines to encourage non-profits to collaborate, create new partnerships, and work together across disciplines to generate new programs. Over $1 million in grants have been awarded.
In 2019, the Center of Wonder is returning to its programming origins and will be launching the Wonder Institute, a creative think tank. The Wonder Institute will provide a Masters-In-Residency series, Digital Media lab, Makerspace, as well as free community events. We will continue to provide grants, like Arts for All, that empower creative leaders, fund innovative art programs, and raise awareness of Jackson Hole as an arts epicenter.
“The Grand Teton Music Festival is proud to have Center of Wonder not only as a funder, but also as long-term collaborator. Center of Wonder staff and board have been instrumental in many key decisions regarding the Festival’s current and future trajectory – from moving the Met Opera Live in HD broadcasts to the Center for the Arts, to funding our first Winter Festival in 2016, to imagining Jackson Hole as a world class destination for the arts. The shared vision between our organizations doesn’t just allow us to dream bigger, but to take the necessary steps towards making an impact in our community.”
